How to use
How to use a touch-up pen
A touch-up pen is the easiest way to fill small chips and scratches. Work in thin layers and let each coat dry before adding more.
Best for
Rock chips, door dings, and scratches smaller than a dime.

Step by step
Clean and dry the area
Wash the panel, then wipe the chip with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth. The surface must be dry and free of wax or grease.
Shake and test
Shake the pen for 30 seconds. Test on cardboard first so you know how much paint flows from the tip.
Apply in thin layers
Dab or draw paint into the chip—do not flood it. One thin coat is better than one thick blob. Let dry 15–30 minutes between coats.
Level and protect
After the color is level with the surrounding paint, allow 24–48 hours to cure before washing or waxing. Clearcoat over the repair if your kit includes it.
Pro tips
- Work in shade—not direct hot sun—so the paint does not dry too fast.
- Hold the pen upright; a light dab often covers better than dragging.
- Practice on a hidden spot if you are nervous about your first chip.
